9 Things I Bought For My Pre-Holiday Daiso Haul

10:48 PM

The moment I stepped inside the new Daiso branch in Lipa, I knew for sure I was coming back. I had chores to do one day and I decided to spend the rest of my day out by looking around Daiso for more things that could potentially help me organize and assist me on a daily basis. This new haul isn't as big as the first one as my visit wasn't planned at all. I have already purchased almost everything that I had set my sights on during the first haul, so this haul is kind of like seeing me on an impulse buying spree.

So, as promised, here are my new purchases from my return:

  1. Face Washing Brush

I've been using this silicone face washing brush for over a week already and I can definitely say that it does a good job with cleaning. A cylinder-like extension protruding from its back offers a good grip of the brush along with its non-slip surface. At first, the thought of me rubbing a silicone product on my face seemed horrifying as I have very sensitive skin, but after trying it hands-on, I can no longer wash my face without using it. Its bristles are really soft and they don't leave marks on my face while I'm using it. I even tried using it to wash my oval foundation brush instead of buying a high end cleaning mat. It works fine with other types of makeup brushes, too!

2. Unruled Notebook

This one isn't for me at all. I'm not a big fan of notebooks. My sister decided to continue making sketches one day and I thought this could be a good notebook for her to start with.

3. Eyebrow Pencil

I bought the one on the right
Again, this isn't for me. I'm not against Daiso's cosmetics line, but I'm fully stocked on eyebrow pencils as far as I'm concerned. This one is for my Mom. She hasn't been fixing her eyebrows in a while, so I thought this could help.

4. Spot and Book Light

I've spotted this around the time of my first haul, but I never considered buying it at first since the desk light I created from an LED strip, wires, a mini switch, and a 9-volt battery was still working. Unfortunately, one of the wires I soldered came off and broke the whole circuit. I haven't had the time to visit the hardware recently, so I opted for a quick replacement instead. See the circuit I made here

This spot and book light can also be clipped on to the cover or any page of a book you're reading. but given that I'm more inclined to read eBooks through an eBook reader app, I haven't used it for that purpose. Also, the clip for using it on books is made of a thin, brittle plastic. If anything would break first on this item, it would definitely be the clip. Given my circumstance, I use it for illuminating my keyboard instead.

5. Boiling Egg Timer

I'm not a fan of cooking. Nor am I trying to do something to learn. But there came a time when I tried boiling eggs for dinner and apparently I mistakenly undercooked them to the point that both the yolks and the egg whites were really soft and sloppy. I hate the thought of wasting food, so I remedied the situation by frying the eggs instead. So when I had the chance to see this timer on Daiso, I knew I had to test it out and buy it. It's the first thing I tested out when I got home. I was a bit skeptic about dunking it in boiling water along with the eggs. I mean, it's part plastic and some kind of hard rubber that resembles resin. Is this really safe to use with food? But then I remembered that there's different kinds of plastic and that not all of them are toxic. I uploaded the video of me using this timer on my Instagram account. Watch it here

Here's what it looks like when it's changing colors:

To be honest, I was amazed with this product. The pink areas of the timer turn to white at some point to reflect what phase the eggs are on: hard, medium, soft. When the timer turned all white, it was a sign that the eggs I was boiling where all hard boiled at that point. So I took them out of the stove and pealed them under a bowl of cold water. It disappointed me a little to see that the eggs turned out soft to medium after I've sliced them open. I guess the best tip here is to wait for 10 or 15 more minutes before taking the eggs out of the stove once the timer reaches the final stage.

6. Kitchen Clips

I bought these cute kitchen clips to help me seal snacks, soups, and any kind of product that doesn't have resealing capabilities. This way, I wouldn't need to buy plastic or glass containers just to store food items. I can say that these clips have a really good grip. And if you seal them enough, there's no way insects or ants can get inside the packet. This is a good item to keep if you're the type who buys large sized snacks or if you have kids who can't seem to finish their snacks in one sitting. You can also bring these on picnics or at the cinema to prevent your snacks from spilling all over your bag. The plastic material it's made of isn't brittle, but you have to be wary of how much plastic you're rolling or else it might crack altogether.

7. Dual Handed Soup Bowl

Do you ever get those times when you almost broke a ceramic bowl after you've put it in the microwave? Because I do. Every. Single. Time. And I'm using pot holders while I'm doing it and it still gives off that stinging heat. So when I spotted this awesome ceramic bowl with handles on both sides, it was almost like an epiphany. This could also make a nice gift for people you know whom are very keen on making soup, don't you think?

8. Crochet Hook

Similar to the eyebrow pencil, this isn't for me. This is once again for my Mom who's gaga for knitting, crocheting, and everything DIY. I would like to learn how to crochet, but with this blog, my job, and the mountain of TV series I want to watch, it's just not gonna fit.

9. Animal Planter

I saw this planter the first time I went for a Daiso haul but it just wasn't cute enough for me. I do like bears, but this just doesn't match to the cuteness of the other animal planters in Daiso. But given that I bought 4 new plants and that I only have 3 planters at home, I bought it anyway. Here's how they look now:

Horse tail (I think?), cactuses, and a lucky bamboo plant
on all 4 animal planters

Buying tiny plants and putting them into these cute planters has made me really interested in gardening. I might start a tiny plant box next year if I have the time and if the interest doesn't dial down.
Now, all I need is the Panda planter and a new cactus/plant to match, then I'm all set!

Final Notes

How was that for a second Daiso haul? I hope you enjoyed looking through the stuff I bought just as much as I enjoy using them.

NOTE: This isn't a sponsored post. Rest assured, I'm working on a way to get more sponsors interested in cross campaigns. If you are one, please feel free to contact me and I'll see what I can do :)

Until the next blog! Thank you for reading!
